Aswoop in January by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) targeting price monopolies has led one antitrust specialist firm to warn of more aggressive take-downs to come this year.
The NDRC fined companies from South Korea and Taiwan a total of RMB353 million (US$56.2 million) for monopolistic price-fixing on liquid crystal display (LCD) panels in early January.
“NDRC is advancing aggressively to combat the price monopoly,” John Yong Ren, the managing partner at T&D Associates in Beijing, told China Business Law Journal. The commission investigated 35 cartel and resale price maintenance (RPM) cases in January.
