Vijaya Sampath has joined Lakshmikumaran & Sridharan as a senior partner and head of the firm’s corporate practice. Prior to joining the firm, Sampath was the group general counsel and company secretary at Bharti Enterprises. She will continue to act as ombudsman and adviser to the group chairman and CEO of the Bharti group.
Sampath has been in the legal profession for over 30 years. During her career, she has worked as a partner in the corporate practice of J Sagar Associates and also with large Indian and multinational groups including the Indian subsidiary of Alcan of Canada (now Rio Tinto Alcan).
At Bharti, Sampath led her in-house team on complex joint ventures, cross-border acquisitions, private equity investments, financing arrangements, international commercial arrangements and high-end litigation strategy. She played a leading role in successfully closing Bharti’s US$9.2 billion landmark acquisition of Kuwaiti telecom operator Zain’s assets in 15 African countries.
