South Korean law firm Yoon & Yang has hired Elayne Sung Heeseung from rival Lee & Ko and corporate lawyer Irene Kim from Samsung Electronics, who will be senior foreign attorneys in the Seoul office.
Sung is a shipping finance specialist, US-qualified attorney and has been at Lee & Ko since 2001. With her decades of experience in cross-border transactions focusing on lease and transportation finance, Sung has advised major financial institutions and shipping companies in Korea.
She has been involved in a diverse range of transactions including syndicated and bilateral credit facilities, as well as offshore financing and export-credit agency support. Her expertise also extends to working on cross-border tax leases, aiding the rehabilitation of Korean shipping companies and organising financing for new container boxes.
Kim, also a US qualified attorney, was formerly a foreign attorney at Yoon & Yang from 2016 before joining Samsung as a principal legal counsel in 2021.
She advises leading multinational companies, private equity funds and financial institutions in M&A and corporate transactions. At Samsung, Kim advised the chip manufacturer on critical transactions with significant technology enterprises, automotive companies and global suppliers.
