The need for lawyers specialized in medical law in India is urgent, said participants at a medical law seminar in Mumbai.
KS Phanindra, a sessions court judge, told seminar delegates in late July that more lawyers need to be trained in medical litigation, or at least be more knowledgeable about medical qualifications when calling experts to the stand. Some medical practitioners provide lawyers with false certificates when asked to appear at court hearings and then prove disappointing when being cross-examined, Phanindra noted.
The seminar was jointly organized by the district legal services board, the bar association, the Mumbai Dr VV Baliga Trust and KMC Hospital in Manipal, Daijiworld.com reported.
