Simmons & Simmons has recently acquired Wavelength to become one of the first law firms to engage with a legal engineering business.
According to a statement from the firm, Wavelength is the world’s first regulated legal engineering firm. Led by CEO Peter Lee and COO Drew Winlaw, the Wavelength team will operate from offices in London and Cambridge, and will have an international presence.
Lee told China Business Law Journal that legal engineering primarily focuses on multidisciplinary teams designing and building solutions and services for clients, and legal tech often forms an element of the solutions.
“As legal engineers, we combine legal tech, data science, design and process skills to complex legal matters, or in support of improving clients’ operational efficiency and effectiveness,” said Lee. “Now that we are part of Simmons & Simmons, our ability to work and operate globally is enhanced because of the extensive international reach of the firm.”
