The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has banned 14 life insurance companies, including those belonging to Tata, the State Bank of India (SBI), ICICI, HDFC and Anil Ambani’s Reliance group, from raising funds through unit-linked insurance plans (ULIP). The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA), India’s insurance regulator, has criticized the move.
