Reed Smith has announced that Denise Jong will take up the position of Asia-Pacific managing partner from 1 January 2018, replacing Roger Parker, who will become a senior counsel to the firm.

Jong is the second partner to hold the position which was newly created in August 2016 alongside two further positions – managing partner, Americas and managing partner, Europe and Middle East – in a move to provide greater focus on geographic responsibilities. Jong told Asia Business Law Journal her long-term strategy in her new role included developing a stronger Asia-based clientele while at the same time continuing to serve the clients of the global firm.
She said there were certain areas, however, that deserved some focus. “I do believe that cybersecurity and fintech are areas for development, and Singapore [requires] focus to strengthen the comprehensive offering we already have in commodities, trade and shipping.”
