Public interest advocacy and development work

Our firm has been at the forefront of big changes to the Philippines’ legal framework relating to technology, media, telecommunications and electronic commerce.

We lobbied for the passage of the E-Commerce Act and drafted the implementing rules on behalf of the government. We were also instrumental in drafting the Supreme Court’s rules on electronic evidence and the first rules on data privacy in the country. In 2014, we made history when the Supreme Court promulgated its landmark case entitled Disini v Secretary of Justice, where the petition filed by the members of the firm was selected by the court as the most meritorious among 15 others that sought to question the constitutionality of the Cybercrime Prevention Act.

More recently, members of the firm have advised government agencies on data privacy, digital TV, satellite internet, open finance, cybercrime, e-commerce, digital taxation as well as the ratification of the Electronic Communications Convention.

We conduct seminars on emerging technology and legal issues. Lawyers in the firm have taught in the most prestigious law schools and e-learning institutions in the country.
