Pankaj Monga has joined Lall & Sethi as a partner based in Singapore to head the firm’s brand protection, risk management and strategy practice as the firm expands its footprint in the Asia-Pacific.
“There are grand plans in store at Lall & Sethi,” Monga told India Business Law Journal. “We will be opening offices in Singapore and Dhaka in the next couple of months.”
Prior to joining the firm, Monga previously worked as an independent consultant, in the capacity of an external general counsel, to advise private companies on brand protection. This is his second innings at Lall & Sethi, as he had worked with the firm at the start of his career, from 2000 to 2006.
“I have always been in touch with Lall & Sethi,” said Monga. “I had the privilege and opportunity to work with them while at Johnson & Johnson and then at GlaxoSmithKline [GSK] as well.”
Monga was at GSK in Singapore for four years, leading its legal brand protection and anti-counterfeiting functions for the Asia-Pacific. He was also regional director for brand protection for the Asia-Pacific at Johnson & Johnson for 10 years.
“I have worked with a multitude of law firms in APAC, and I have had competing offers from other law firms, but I chose Lall & Sethi because I’m most comfortable working in this environment. I have always given importance to the value and the culture of the organisation.”
Monga’s key practice areas include IP (monetisation, risk analysis, management and commercialisation), regulatory, media, technology, digital and entertainment law. He has organised more than 2,500 investigations and legal actions (civil, criminal and administrative).
Lall & Sethi has more than 100 staff, including five partners and 25 lawyers. The law firm was founded by Chander Lall and Sandeep Sethi in 1994.
