At the 12th annual Rajiv Gandhi Awards held in Mumbai, Rohit Kochhar – the founding member, national chairman and managing partner of Delhi-based law firm Kochhar & Co – was named Young Entrepreneur of the Year. The award was presented by member of parliament Rajiv Shukla and Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif.

Kochhar enjoys the distinction of being the only practising lawyer in the country credited with the establishment of five different business entities, each operating in a distinct service segment. In addition to his law firm, Kochhar is the founding member and promoter of Pinkerton India, an investigation services company; Kochhar LexServe, a legal process outsourcing company; Confiar, a recruitment company; and Kochhar Business Services, a business consultancy firm.
Kochhar’s latest venture is the Kochhar Foundation, which will champion causes such as child welfare, the eradication of corporal punishment in government-run schools and other educational institutions in India, the social empowerment of women and the elimination of poverty in rural areas. The work of the foundation was inspired in part by the tragic death a few months ago of an 11-year-old Delhi girl, Shanno, due to corporal punishment inflicted upon her at school.
