Khaitan & Co disputes partner Sanjeev Kapoor in New Delhi has been appointed vice-president of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) arbitral court in Paris.
Kapoor is the sole vice president from India, and the appointment comes as part of the global institution electing a new president, 12 vice presidents and 68 members.
“In addition to discharging regular court functions to ensure the quality and enforceability of ICC awards, it will be my endeavour to strengthen institutional arbitration in India and make the ICC International Court of Arbitration the leading arbitral institution of choice for the business community,” Kapoor told India Business Law Journal. His term as vice president runs until 2024.
Claudia Salomon takes over as ICC president from Alexis Mourre and is the first woman president in the chamber’s almost 100-year history. Salomon will work with the body’s 17 vice presidents and 195 members residing in 121 countries.
The current ICC members from India are Pallavi Shroff, managing partner of Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co in New Delhi, and Kunal Vajani, head of chambers at BlackRobe Chambers in New Delhi.
