The Indian Singers Rights Association (ISRA) has taken action in Delhi High Court against the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the teams of the Indian Premier League (IPL) after the latter failed to pay royalty fees for the use of Bollywood songs during recent cricket matches and in previous years.
ISRA is seeking an injunction against the teams of the IPL cricket league in India, accusing them of playing songs without permission or payment of royalty fees to the artists’ body, which ISRA said amounted to the infringement of performers’ rights. The court ordered DNA Entertainment Networks – the nodal agency in charge of logistics and entertainment for the IPL tournaments – to refrain from playing Bollywood music during matches until 19 April.
