Introduction
Ameet Datta is a senior partner with the tier-1 IP and TMT law firm Saikrishna & Associates. Ameet is an IP litigator specialising in copyright, trademark and design litigation, as well as a trade and regulatory compliance counsel.
With more than 20 years as a lawyer, Ameet’s specialisations include wide-ranging expertise across the telecoms, technology, media and entertainment sectors on a variety of issues relating to IP, technology regulations and e-waste, and plastics compliance regulation.
Ameet’s specialisations also include wide-ranging expertise across the technology, media and entertainment sectors in relation to content creation, aggregation and acquisitions, and distribution aspects of the M&E sector.
During his career, Ameet has advised leading Indian and international industry clients including consumer durables and technology companies, media houses, broadcast sector clients, copyright societies, film production, music labels and content exploitation platforms. Ameet also specialises in privacy issues, as well as personal data protection laws, data security, trade secrecy/data theft (civil and criminal) claims and advisory support, and advises clients in relation to online intermediary liability, format rights, defamation issues and right of publicity. Ameet also advises clients on general trade compliance issues arising in relation to consumer law, advertising, legal metrology and e-waste related environmental compliance issues.
During the past 10 years, Ameet has engaged in policy reform around copyright and, in the past five years, in relation to personal data protection issues. He has deposed as an expert witness before parliamentary standing committees. He drives the policy reform, advocacy and development group at the firm, advising various technology and creative sector industry groups in the consumer durable, IT, broadcast, film, software and print publishing space.
