ICICI Bank announced in November that it has appointed Priti Shetty as its first permanent legal director in London. The move follows the expansion of the bank’s services in Britain.
Moving from the bank’s Mumbai headquarters, Shetty will be responsible for ICICI’s legal affairs in Britain, Canada, Russia and the US, reporting directly to ICICI’s legal team in India.
The bank has around 120 in-house lawyers, but plans to hire another UK-based lawyer as well as a paralegal. Shetty, who is qualified in India as well as England and Wales, will focus mainly on treasury and derivatives work.
ICICI plans to enter the personal loan, insurance and current account markets in Britain. The bank also said in November that it was planning to open in St Petersburg, Russia.
