As part of the third Hong Kong Arbitration Week, the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre’s (HKIAC) ADR in Asia Conference keynote speaker took the theme “Asia at the cutting edge” to its letter with his call for “BATs out of BITs”.

Gary Born, London-based chair of WilmerHale’s international arbitration practice group, suggested that international commercial arbitration could learn from the essential structure of bilateral investment treaties (BITs) by means of adopting bilateral arbitration treaties (BATs).
