The significance of India as a destination for international lawyers has been highlighted by the decision of Harvard Law School to send a group of 10 students to attend internship programmes at Mumbai law firms.
Six of the students were placed at Nishith Desai Associates for three weeks in March, while Amarchand Mangaldas, ARA Law and Majmudar & Co hosted the rest of the group. The students also participated in evening seminars with partners at the law firms, former Supreme Court judges, and prominent NGO advocates. They earned two course credits for their participation.
While smaller numbers of Harvard Law School students had previously undertaken internships in India, this was the first formal trip, organized by the Office of Clinical and Pro Bono Programs in association with the South Asian Law Students’ Association as a winter seminar programme. Sponsorship was contributed by international law firm McDermott Will & Emery, with The Chugh Firm of Los Angeles offering additional support.
