A partner at Kachwaha & Partners, launched his book Principles of Law of Arbitration in India at New Delhi’s Hotel Imperial last month. The author, Dharmendra Rautray, said the book takes readers “through different stages of an arbitration proceeding – from drafting the arbitration clause to the enforcement of the arbitral award”.
“[The book] explains and discusses issues arising under each stage of the arbitration proceedings … [and clarifies] the objective behind the UNCITRAL Model Law provisions which form the basis of the provisions of the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996, and prompts the reader to adopt a correct interpretation,” said Rautray, who began writing the book in 2012 after a decision in the BALCO case which he had argued before the constitution bench of the Supreme Court of India. He added that the book has been written with both practitioners and lay people in mind.
Dipak Misra, former Chief Justice of India, who wrote the foreword, released the book at the event. Also at the event were Delhi High Court Justice S Ravindra Bhat, Justice Indu Malhotra, Justice AM Khanwilkar, senior advocate AK Ganguly, and several former judges of the Supreme Court.
