The CEO of the International Trademark Association (INTA) has revealed the choice of Hong Kong for its first foray into Asia was partly to recognise positive changes taking place in China in the sector.
“Hong Kong is clearly an IP gateway for Asia, but it is also part of Greater China,” Etienne Sanz de Acedo told China Business Law Journal. “INTA is very interested in expanding its activities in China, in protecting international trademarks in China, but also in helping Chinese trademarks getting protected in other regions of the world.” Sanz de Acedo said the number of attendees at the Hong Kong conference from Greater China this year was the highest since INTA’s inception back in 1878. There were 765 participants from mainland China, 225 from Hong Kong, 119 from Taiwan, and 12 from Macau.
