Jasmeet Wadehra took up his role as general counsel at International Paper at the start of this month. Wadehra joins the company from FedEx, where he was the managing director of legal and regulatory affairs.
Wadehra was attracted to the challenges of setting a strategic direction for International Paper’s business in India. He will be involved in integrating Andhra Pradesh Paper Mills – acquired by International Paper for US$423 million in 2011 – as well as risk management and governance.

Wadehra told India Business Law Journal that a key challenge would be to transform International Paper’s India operations “into a compliance and ethics-led company”. This includes generating strong awareness of risks, implementing training and communications programmes, and rolling out various compliance policies, particularly to combat corruption and bribery.
