Introduction
A professionally trained Sinologist (PhD from Stanford) turned technologist (International Data Group, Borland International, Reality Technologies, Apple, Alcatel Data Networks, Cable & Wireless) and later-turned private capital attorney, Scott Peterman advises clients on all aspects of their business in deploying private capital, from fund formation, fundraising, and regulatory matters to analysing, structuring, and executing transactions and portfolio management. Peterman and his colleagues work with private capital sponsors and investors across all liquid and illiquid asset classes, including: direct lending; restructuring and special situations; private equity; structured credit; real estate; infrastructure; energy; hedge funds, sovereign wealth funds, pension funds, family offices; and venture capital.
Peterman is licensed in Hong Kong, New York, and Washington DC. He offers clients a unique perspective with in-depth knowledge in the technology and telecommunications industries, having served for 13 years as a Silicon Valley senior executive before practicing law. Peterman speaks Mandarin and Japanese. While in Taiwan, he studied at the Inter-University Program for Advanced Chinese Language Studies (Stanford Centre) in Taipei prior to completing his PhD at Stanford University, following which he completed a JD at Georgetown University. He has been vice-chairman of the CFA Society Japan, and vice-chairman and treasurer of the Washington Association of Money Managers.

Peterman’s personal research reflects his continuing interest in early Chinese Zen Buddhism. He is the translator of the Tang Dynasty classic, Treatise on the Essential Path for Entering the Way through Sudden Enlightenment and the Song Dynasty Record of Dazhu’s Responses to Questions of Disciples from All Over.
