Introduction

Ernest Yang is a partner based in DLA Piper’s Hong Kong office and heads up the Litigation and Regulatory Group there. He is also the Co-Chair of DLA Piper’s arbitration practice in the Asia Pacific Region. He has close to two decades of experience in international arbitration and commercial litigation, serving clients from an array of jurisdictions. Yang has in-depth experience in handling arbitration disputes in a variety of seats / countries including Hong Kong, London, Singapore, Beijing, Shanghai, Stockholm and Australia, to name a few, before arbitral institutions covering areas such as international trade and commodities, joint ventures, energy and offshore projects, international investment and technology. He is one of those rare and sought-after practitioners who can handle arbitration proceedings in English, Mandarin and Cantonese. Being a qualified solicitor advocate in England and Wales, he is often asked to conduct advocacy in both English and Chinese arbitration proceedings. As a result of his stellar reputation, Yang has been appointed a Shanghai member of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference since 2013, and promoted to the Standing Committee in 2019, regularly advising the local government on a vast array of legal issues.
