Cavenagh Law, the alliance partner firm of Clifford Chance in Singapore, has appointed commercial litigation and international arbitration specialist Paul Tan as a partner to its dispute resolution practice, starting on 1 September.

Previously a partner at Rajah & Tann’s Singapore office, Tan advises on complex issues of public and private international law, as well as managing disputes across Southeast Asia. He will be actively engaged in Cavenagh’s cross-border litigation practice in the region.

Tan’s clients comprise multinationals, global insurers, financial institutions and Asian governments. His recent noteworthy cases include successfully counselling on the setting-aside of a treaty award for the government of Lesotho before the Singapore courts, defending a government against a multibillion-dollar claim on an oil exploration service contract, and leading a successful claim for losses caused by a joint venture to shares pledged under a complex non-recourse loan agreement before the Singapore International Commercial Court.

“We are delighted to welcome such a well-regarded litigator to our team,” said Cavenagh Law’s managing partner, Paul Sandosham. “Paul’s skills as lead counsel on high-profile trials, appeals and arbitration-related litigation will complement our talented team and bolster our support for clients on contentious matters in Singapore and the region.”
