Mysore Prasanna, Group Executive President (Legal) at Aditya Birla, announced his retirement at the end of last month. Ashok Gupta will take over Prasanna’s role at the company.
Prasanna joined Aditya Birla in 1998 and was responsible for creating the company’s in-house legal department. Prior to joining Birla, he had been an independent practitioner for nearly seven years and had also held in-house roles at General Insurance Corporation, Alfa-Laval, Brooke Bond India (now part of Unilever) and Larsen & Toubro.

Asked about his decision to retire, Prasanna cited personal reasons. “Frankly, I must say the job was exciting and kept me fully engrossed,” he told India Business Law Journal. “This affected the work-life balance significantly. My family needed some of my time. I wasn’t getting any younger and I could not hope to keep pace with the pressure of work. Before anything happened that might inhibit my ability to function at full steam, I decided to voluntarily call it a day and play the second innings in a manner that I would want to.”
