The UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) UK-India Business Awards 2009 were announced on 17 September at a glittering ceremony in Mumbai, attended by Indian and UK business leaders. The awards celebrate India-UK business partnerships in terms of investment, collaborations, entrepreneurship and innovation. The awards were presented by the UK Minister for Trade, Investment and Business, Lord Davies of Abersoch, in the presence of the British High Commissioner in India, Sir Richard Stagg.
Lord Davies said: “These awards are about celebrating success. They recognize the enormous achievements made by businesses of all sizes. I congratulate the talented entrepreneurs who are bringing India and the UK closer together. Each of the shortlisted companies has a great story to tell and is a superb example for the next generation of entrepreneurs waiting in the wings.”
Awards were presented in eight categories. Firstsource Solutions received the award for Investor of the Year, having become the sixth largest Indian investor in the UK through its presence in Northern Ireland and London. The Business Partnership Award went to Dar Consultants, an infrastructure design and project management consultancy, for its partnership with Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation on the landmark Mumbai Sea Link – a cable-stayed bridge that connects the western suburbs of Mumbai with the city centre, reducing travel time from 60 minutes to seven.
