Introduction
Oliver Massmann is an international attorney at law and a financial accountant and auditor. He received his PhD with a major in international business law. He has more than 20 years of experience working as a commercial lawyer in Vietnam. Massmann is fluent in Vietnamese at negotiation and presentation level.
Massmann practices in the area of international corporate taxation and on power or water projects, matters related to oil and gas companies and telecoms, privatisation and equitisation, M&A, and general commercial matters for multinational clients concerning investment and doing business in Vietnam. He is the only foreign lawyer a member of the supervisory board of PetroVietnam Insurance Corporation, Vietnam’s largest industrial insurer.
The European Commission and the EU Trade Delegation in Vietnam have selected him as the lead advisor to advise and assist in a project to support the implementation of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), one of the most important free trade agreements for Vietnam. It is estimated that more than 400 laws have to be renewed and updated to meet Vietnam’s commitments in the EVFTA. This is one of the most comprehensive and famous, and prestigious projects in Vietnam so far.
Massmann is currently working on several investment projects and taxation matters and advising the Ministry of Electrical Power on building the power generation infrastructure in Myanmar.
He is a registered arbitrator of the Vietnam International Arbitration Centre (the VIAC). He is the only foreign lawyer presenting to the National Assembly of Vietnam in Vietnamese language and teaching international law in Vietnamese at the Ministry of Justice in Hanoi.
