Ira has extensive experience in a wide spectrum of commercial and civil litigation cases. She has dealt with clientele in many different industries and is an experienced trial and appellate lawyer. Ming-li’s expertise is in the practice area of corporate and securities law where she is involved in advising on capital market transactions and related corporate finance work, cross-border mergers and acquisitions as well as the setting up of corporate and trust structures for her corporate clientele. She was also actively involved in corporate and commercial litigation in her early years of practice and has had experience in arbitration matters and intellectual property disputes. Ming-li has advised on many notable corporate and securities transactions over the years, including the listing of one of the first Malaysian-owned companies on the Alternative Investment Market of the London Stock Exchange (AIMs), the successful acquisition of a business division of Royal Philips BV involved in the manufacture of high-tech plastic lenses for the telecommunications industry and also the disposal of the Sheraton Hanoi Hotel through an international tender process. She also has extensive experience in corporate and debt restructuring and has spearheaded during the last financial crisis in Malaysia, the corporate and debt restructuring of some of the largest debt restructuring exercises in Malaysia. In addition, Ming-li advises trust companies and a select number of substantial net-worth families on asset protection, and the establishment of private trusts and foundations including charitable foundations. Ming-li is a member of the Disciplinary Committee of the Advocates & Solicitors’ Disciplinary Board of Malaysia. She has been consistently recognized by independent publications as a leading individual for her corporate and capital markets practice. More recently, she was recognized in IFLR 1000 as a Highly Regarded Lawyer in 2018 and 2019. She has been ranked as a Leading Lawyer in Corporate/M&A in both the 2016 and 2017 and 2019 editions of Asialaw Leading Lawyers and similarly ranked in Corporate/Commercial: Equity Capital Markets in Chambers Asia-Pacific 2019.
