Amarchand Mangaldas has opened an office in Gujarat’s commercial capital, Ahmedabad. The step was particularly significant for the firm’s founders, the Shroff family, whose lineage can be traced back to the city. Amarchand senior partner Bharti Shroff, who co-founded the firm with her husband, the late Suresh Shroff, inaugurated the new office.
Amarchand has six lawyers in Ahmedabad and plans to recruit three more by April 2013. The expansion is being spearheaded by partner Pankaj Agarwal, whose expertise lies in M&A, private equity, joint ventures, financing, corporate advisory and real estate. Partner Tejas Karia will lead the litigation practice at the new office. Karia specializes in international and domestic commercial arbitration, corporate litigation and real estate disputes.
The firm’s clients in Gujarat include companies in sectors such as petroleum and petrochemicals, power, engineering and automotive, mines and minerals, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology, and shipping.
