The All-China Federation of Trade Unions (ACFTU) amended its Labour Union Charter on 22 October 2013. The amendments provide that:
- unions shall be more active in participating in the legislative process of labour laws and representing workers to carry out inspections on the implementation of labour laws by employers;
- if a labour union has 10 or more female members, then the labour union shall set up a female workers committee; and
- unions at all levels should strengthen the management and supervision of union funds to preserve and increase the value of such funds.
The first change reflects the ACFTU’s growing role in influencing employment-related legislation.
